New Card Controls From FFCCU

You’re used to friends, family, (and maybe even yourself) making resolutions to change for the better in the new year. But you might not have expected your debit card to jump on the bandwagon too! For 2025, FFCCU is adding some features to your debit card controls that can give you big benefits going forward. These changes are putting the power to protect your money into your hands. Get to know the coming card controls we’ll be rolling out throughout February.

How Can Card Controls Help Me?

If you’ve been keeping up with the FFCCU blog, you know just how prevalent scammers and spoofers have been over the past few years. Criminals love to get their hands on your information, and your debit card is one of their main targets. One study found that more than 20% of cardholders (including credit cards) reported one or more incidences of fraud. And while preventing fraud before it occurs is the best course of action, consumers need options to mitigate damage, too. This is one of the most important roles that our new card controls take on. FFCCU members can now be even more proactive in protecting their funds from cybercrime and theft!

Another element of your financial life where card controls come in handy: budgeting! Setting a budget ahead of time is important homework. Tools like spending limits enforce that budget and prevent you from accidentally overspending. Merchant and transaction type settings can also be set to customize your spending allowances and restrictions. Keep in mind, these new controls won’t replace your regular budgeting but will empower your planning.

Your Debit Card Gets Smarter With Card Controls

The wait for these new features isn’t going to be long! Here’s the list of what you can expect to be available beginning in mid-February of 2025:

• Lock and Unlock Your Card: Misplace your card? Concerned that it may have been stolen or compromised? Temporarily lock it to prevent misuse.
• Transaction Notifications: Get instant alerts whenever your card is used, so you can monitor activity in real time.
• Spending Limits: Set transaction limits to help manage your budget.
• Custom Card Controls: Decide where and how your card can be used with options like merchant and transaction type restrictions, as well as location-based settings. This can be great for enhanced security and can come in handy for frequent travelers.

New Plastic or Still Fantastic?

Will these new card controls mean you need a new debit card? Nope! As the new card controls roll out, they will be available in digital banking – on desktop, mobile, and in the FFCCU app. The upgrades won’t have any impact on your physical card, and you can rely on the expiration date listed there.
