Congratulations to Our 2022 Ignite My Future Scholarship Winners!
Picking the scholarship recipients every year is a difficult job. With so many exceptional candidates, it is never an easy task. However, we are grateful for all the students that applied. And without further ado, here are the 2022 Ignite My Future Scholarship winners:
Grace Koehler
Grace is a senior at Medina High School. She saw a need in her community for more youth soccer coaches and decided to volunteer her time as a referee and coach. As part of the Girls Leadership Club, Grace has served Thanksgiving dinners to the elderly and sewed clothing for a women’s shelter. She says that she is “grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve my community in this role, to mentor young girls, and to help develop an ongoing relationship between the high school and the community recreation program.” Grace will be attending Brigham Young University in the fall.
Parker Weitzel
Parker is a senior at Fairview Park High School. He has contributed to his community by raising $10,000 for the Fairview Park City School District as a part of the Eagle Scouts to provide emergency lockdown buckets. He also volunteered as a leader for the youth Law Enforcement Explorers career program and served food at the Fairview Park Hunger Center. Parker says, “I did this [emergency lockdown] project because I wanted my classmates, the school staff, and future students to have the supplies they need to help save a life if necessary.” Parker plans to attend Baldwin Wallace University in the fall and to work in law enforcement to serve and protect the community.
Maura Murray
Maura is a senior at Mentor High School. She has given back to her community by conducting her own Eagle Scout project for the CARES community and helping assemble blood drives as a member of the student government. Maura has also assisted in preparing food for the homeless at St. Bede Church. She recants this about her experiences: “between clearing trails, picking up trash on the beach, and helping out with Eagle Projects, I have been able to complete small acts of service that will amount to making a bigger difference.” Maura plans to attend Ohio University in the fall.
